Do you believe that - maybe even have examples of - some people can somehow sense what you're thinking or feeling even if they're a long distance away and haven't seen in you in a long while?

Go back 200 to 300 years ago, folk couldn't explain electricity but knew about lightning, St Elmo's fire and static shocks but couldn't explain them.
Psychic powers - it's estimated we only know some 10 per cent of the brain's power - how do Dolphins (or even some birds communicate) - we can't explain. Psychic powers/feelings I accept - dressing them up as God I do not, just an explanation for the unknown.

Yeah, no-one is seriously challenging Einstein's Theory at the moment.
There's no reason to believe in psychic abilities as there has yet to be a single successful test under experimental conditions of Psychic abilities. Until such time it is rational to not believe in Psychic abilities and all idle "oh we don't know..." stuff misses something important: that as Science has progressed it has squeezed and squeezed almost to extinction any reason to believe in mystical powers. This trend is only going to continue -- the world is not that weird.

DTC I think we know how dolphins and birds communicate and have done for some time. As for lightning, well lots of people had seen it, it had been recorded in various ways, (burnt trees, dead animals). When people interpret a slight functional abnormality of the brain as something paranormal then that is proof that the brain doesn't always function properly. QED.
By psychic I didn't think you meant mediums, which most people scoff at but more a a thought transmission. I've lost count of the times I might be thinking of something totally random and then my OH starts a conversation about it or thinking of someone and 5 minutes later they call. That I have experienced (although it may easily be just coincidence).
It would appear that there may well be some form of mental contact possible between animals/birds/fish - one only has to watch a large shoal of fish, or a large flock of starlings to wonder how they co-ordinate their movement without some form of mental traffic. If this is the case, then possibly a similar facility lies dormant (through non-use) in the human brain.
That's beginning to be explained mathematically -- fish moving near to each other are responding to nearby movements so that no fish need be aware of any more than two or three nearby ones, and with this assumption an entire (computer-simulated) fish shoal behaves as a super-organism. No mental transmission needed.
only CERN, jim....they're only lightweight to Cambridge physicists?
True, jomifil, but I wouldn't rule out a lot on subliminal communication quite yet.
Look, the difference in thinking is that to me there may be yet science/laws/whatever, that we have no real grasp of yet. Yes, we are scratching at many areas and revealing things faster than we ever have done in history and that's brilliant.....one of the latest ones being the presence of earth-sized (slightly larger) planets that are H2O rich, water and ice......the presence of hydrocarbons likely to be there. We cannot afford to be blinkered to (genuine) science and paradigm shifts, however large or small, however basic or complex, or however fundamental in changing our thinking.
Blinkerism will kill us all.
