It seems to be diabetes day to day.

Simple...if you are fat and lazy, then Type 2 is waiting for you...it's that simple and in my description of fat and lazy gives you the clue to treatment.

Mistake....he was type 1
only ask as my FIl became diabetic in his early 70's, insulin dependent as tablets didn't do their thing. He's overweight and sedentary, partly due to other health issues.
2 pals have been insulin dependent since they were about 4 years old, both are now in their 50's and chunky.
T1DM is the loss of insulin producing cells within the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas, which in turn leads to an insulin deficiency. This loss is almost always due to an autoimmune attack and consequent autoimmune antibodies.

T2DM on the other hand is more an insulin resistance, the body seemingly less responsive to the insulin produced within the body, a failure of insulin receptors, for as yet unspecified reasons...
aah, thank you Lazygun, whatever I type is going to sound dreadful, but that really does explain a lot. Thanks xx

Lazygun's description will be more scientific than mime:

Type 1 diabetes......body produces antibodies against it's own Insulin producinc cells and destroys them.

Type 2 diabetes.....either so much fat around the blood vessels of the pancreas that it blocks the movement of Insulin into the blood stream

OR.....the body cells do not respond to the Insulin.

It seems that ummmm and cazz have got little constructive to offer......
reel the bait in sqadlet :-D xx

One pal, who was diagnosed at 4, told me (Type 1) that it was genetic, and can miss a generation, nothing scientific, other than her grandpa had it, but her siblings brothers missed it, so can't be one 'of those things' passed male to male or otherwise obviously.
Ooo! Handbags. :)
Whats it called where you body gets rid of sugar/glucose very very quickly?
FGT hypoglycaemia?
Thanks Yoga, When they have done the glucose test - I don't have any left in my system.

Also, I get major sugar dumps that have led me to passing out and ambulance called - the doctor has tested me after each one but by then the sugar is back to normal so he can no advise me of a course of action?
"It seems that ummmm and cazz have got little constructive to offer...... "

And you calling people with diabetes fat and lazy is very constructive?
lol sqad.
Sqad - tell me that you were more tactful and approachable when you were a GP. My doctor once (jokingly I think) threatened to get me put to sleep.

I have always been insulin intolerance but over the years have put on tons and tons of weight (the Lithium tabs can take some of the blame) and am now at a stage where my back hurts when I try to walk. I am in a major rut both mentally and physically.
