Hi x 9 weeks ago I fell and landed full force onto my knee cap was agony but I got up and carried on. It's been really sore and not been able to kneel since the fall. Anyway three weeks ago it ballooned twice in size so went to doc who diagnosed housemaid knee and told me to take ibuprofen. Well three weeks on its bigger putting skinny jeans on hurts as the pressure on it aggravates it still can't kneel! Do I go back to doc or is it one those things that will eventually go away and if so how long do they normally last? I'm a 42 yr old healthy normal weight x thanks

I would go back and check, especially as it seems to be getting worse. Can you still see bruising around it?
I fell like you about three years ago, and still can't kneel down. Also when I touch one part of my knee I can feel it on another! I know I should go back to the docs but I keep putting it off

No there was very little bruising in the first place so I just assumed had bruised the bone x
Important point:

Is the swelling in the bursa (Housemaids Knee) OR
Is the swelling from the inside of the kneejoint ?

Totally different issues.

No.......go back to your GP.

sqad - knee looks like a round tennis ball compared to other knee and it feels like jelly sorry way how I can describe it!!!
Missfaye...thanks but from that description, I still wouldn't put my money on either situation.
See you GP and ask if he thinks that it is from the bursa (housemaids knee) or from inside the joint itself and only physical examination will be able to differentiate.

My bet?...only a bet..;-) it is Housemaid's Knee and will need draining.
