that zavirax is crap !!!! do not waste your money, i felt tingles week ago then started using it but my lips are covered in cold sores yuuuk i was on sunbeds last week so thats the reason, im finding ordinary petroleum jel is helping. what about sudo cream ? theyre near away now anyway....just spreading the word ;-)

Put some toothpaste on them before bed - it will dry them out if you can avoid licking it off.

I also find Zovirax no good. Just get a bog standard boots cold sore treatment - either the liquid or the cream. They work well if you catch it early enough.

My husband swears by Zovirak, but you have to use it on them at the very first sign or tingle sensation.

I get these and have one at the moment :-( I invested in one of these about 18 months after reading reviews and highly recommend buying one!

The cold sores I get now are less painful, less frequent and much smaller!
The cream I buy is Fenistil and agree zovirax is rubbish!

I have had cold sores since I was very young and have tried everything, nothing worked for me until I was told about lysine 1000 mg.
You can buy them in Holland and Barrett, you take two tablets when you feel the tingle and one the following day. They are quite big to take , I cut them in half.

Agree with yelenots. Discovered the 'zapper' for my son about 2 years ago (not done by Boots then) Much more effective

Just out of curiosity, why would using sunbeds cause cold sores?

I read somewhere that dabbing coffee on a cold sore works.Worth a try if all else fails.

It's the same auto-response which gives people cold sores if they sunbathe - my mate always comes back from holiday with a cold sore.

Hmm. Interesting.
I came home from holiday last year with a corker on my bottom lip, but it wasn't like a 'normal' cold sore, it was really painful and pulsating. I went to the chemist and they just gave me Zovirax, but they said it was a 'sun blister' as opposed to a cold sore.
