Does everyone dump their best friend when they get a new love interest? Is it a hormonal thing that you can't stop, this new person taking over your whole world, and everyone else being made redundant? Has this ever happened to you, were you the dumper or the dumpee, and how long did it last for?

Had a great friend for years - we went all over the world as part of a group of 6 - Brussels, Toronto, New York, Spain etc etc. New love came into her life and I haven't seen her for 7 years. Ah well, life moves on.
I think it's more of a case that folk start to settle down and see less of their friends because they don't go out pubbing and clubbing, etc as much.

I have a group of friends that used to see each other all the time, but slowly we have all paired off and had kids. We still see each other and keep in touch, but it's not nearly as much as we used to.

I think it's just progression, whether we like it or not. It's not easy if you are the last one to settle down either.
I think it's quite normal to be caught up in it for a while, but not to actually lose friends over.
Are you trying to make the effort with your friends?

Yes Bednobs, sometimes you don't get a resolution from a question and the problem persists. By asking again you get different responses and perspectives. If I had the answers or understood it I wouldn't be posting on here.

Ummmm I make continual effort but it's not reciprocated anymore. It's very sad. Can't believe it would have devastated me as much as it has.
It depends how good a friend they are I suppose. A few of us used to go to a club when we were in our early 30s and one girl came along who had recently got divorced. She wasn`t really my friend but she was best mates with a couple of the girls. She had dropped all her friends when she met her husband and learned her lesson when they got divorced and needed her mates. She used to say how she would never, ever do that again etc.
One night, she met a guy and we never, ever saw her again. She even had the nerve to send a christmas card a couple of years later complaining that she hadn`t heard from anybody.
I think it`s pretty lousy to drop your friends THB. Real friends don`t do that but some people are just fickle, I guess.
sorry, just didn't know if you'd seen you had 22 answers before
