F.a.o Sqad.. My Sinus Problem Update

Hi sqad, i finally saw an ent specialist the other day, and after yet another scan with a nose camera which was inserted inside my left nostril, he said i needed to go to hospital to see a specialist who will under general anaethetic drain a lot of phlegm/or as he said mucus from the offending nostril, as it seems i have a lot of phlegm build up behind my left cheek, causing terrible headaches.
Of course i am a tad worried, but have been told its a routine operation.

I was thinking about you tester day, wondering what the X-Rays show.

I think that what you will be having is what's known in the trade as FESS .......Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery.

All done through the nose and no "cutting" from the outside.

Almost certainly done as a day case or overnight stay at most.

Sqad/piggynose!! ... If you're seeing specialist excellent. But, from me practical experience. I thought I'd never had sinus problems ever. Cut short was investigated for possible TIA or CVST - Cerebral Venous sinus thrombosis. TIA's eliminated after bril. tests/scans etc. CVST - sort of eliminated, but thought to drain my sinuses via my temple!. Other suggestion was to drain them via dental treatment through a root canal.
Opted for the Dental line, great faith in my Dentist. Had it/them drained 27 times in 12 months!! I've been fine for 5 years, virtually no headaches at all. Official problem was re-diagnosed as "Migrainous Neuralgia". Don't confuse that with ordinary migraine, 'cos it's many years since i've had that! The final thought was that whatever I had it came from spending to much time at altitude, probably at/over 7,000ft. Again, I'm fine now, but don't chase Glaciers anymore!! Our facial plumbing is a bit complicated. If you get an infection in there (it can be bacterial, viral or yeast) your body produced gallons of mucus to flush it out. Unfortunately, it's not always successful.

Draining your sinuses under general anaesthetic should fix the problem. The main reason for using a general is so you keep still. It can be done under local anaesthetic, but the experience is very unpleasant. It may leave you with a sore nose for a week, but you'll feel a lot better afterwards.

Any medics out there who want to make a name for themselves: work out a better cure for this common problem.

the date with the surgeon cant come any sooner, 11th march to be precise, dont think its the day of the op, maybe more tests, unless sqad can say otherwise. the person who is suffering the most is my g´friend as she claims my nose problem is causing a terrible stench!!

Problem is Jim, the drainage hole for our sinuses is half way up the sinus cavity which as OK when we were walking on "all fours" but when we developed the uptight position, it is not too clever as the sinuses never really drain properly.

Piggy...it should be the day of the operation, as no more tests are necessary.
