ok, i'm getting ready for the bottom jokes before we start...but seriously,
For the past year I have been bleeding from behind. The bleeding is very heavy when it happens, not just a bit of blood in my stool but a pan full. However it is not regular. I started bleeding again just before xmas but it hasnt happened again for about 4 weeks. In addition I have a dull ache about 1-2 inches inside my rectum and its painful to sit. I cant get into my doctors until next week but in the meantime was wondering if it sounds like the symptons of piles?
thank you.

In addition, I never feel like im fully empty after going to the loo.
If the bleeding is bright red rather than dark then it may well be piles or a fissure - either way as it is quite regular you do the right thing in reporting to the GP
Should have gone to the Docs when it first started
Well in fairness that didn't happen, so nailit is in the here and now.
Bright red blood is normally piles (I know, I've had 'em!!), but I didn't have the other symptoms. Sqad should hopefully be along soon.
naillit, it could be internal piles
(I think I've heard that there are internal piles.)

Doc will probably and hopefully, send you for a colonoscopy after looking at your botty.

I was wondering how you were doing the other day, and now here you are!
Hope all is well, apart from the botty xx

Thank you for your acumen atsgran!
the blood isnt dark although there has been occasional patches of what looks like dark slime.
thank you for your quick replies.
Piles or a fissure - easily fixed with some treatment, or minor surgery.

thank you alba, im doing ok. x

thank you andy, the thought of surgery on my posterior doesnt sound like fun...
don't panic yet, nailit, the doc still has to look at your botty, oh, you may also be asked to provide a stool sample.
(no, not a chippendale stool!) just to check there is no blood in the poo.

stool sample? poo in a pot? oh God, its getting worse...
just don't have a curry the night before :-D

It'll be fine, the doc will look and see exterior piles (if they're there).
The favourite is....PILES.

However you will need an endoscopy to confirm the diagnosis and to exclude other less frequent causes.

thank you all for your replies.
The 'not quite emptied' feeling is also commensurate with piles, as the swelling does impede the expulsion of waste, and also because the swelling adds to the feeling of fullness.
Doc will sort, but in the meantime those haeommoroid suppositories are very soothing.
Yes. Sounds about right to me .......unfortunately.
are you sure it's heavy? It doesn't actually take much to turn the pan red.
Question Author
well it looks heavy to me jno and the toilet paper afterwards is just pure red but I know what you mean.
Depending on how does the camera up scan they may be able to fix some things while in there.

I have one next week of only the lower bowel as I've been having some bleeding and pain and other issues and they had me booked in by a surgeon in case there is anything like piles or a fissure which they may be able to help (they took off a polyp in my last one).

The GP has never been able to find any piles by the "finger up" method but my consultant said that doesn't mean there aren't any - much easier when they can see on a camera.

It needs checking though to make sure that the source is clear.

Don't worry about poo-ing in a pot, it's not that tricky haha, you do it into a cardboard pan then there is a little spatula thing in the pot lid usually to get a sample for a pot. I've never tried this approach but I've heard clingfilm over the toilet seat can also work.
