Evening....I woke up almost completely deaf this morning so I saw another GP.....

He is one I like and trust but a little confirmation never hurts....

I have no wax and very shiny eardrums which would suggest not glue ear. He did lots of tests with a tuning fork and...because he doesn't do this often got out a reference book.....I like that.

The results of the tuning fork pinging told him the problem was conductive and not a nerve problem......I like that too....well conductive seems the better of the two.

He has referred me to E.N.T. ....bypassing audiology if another doctor in the practice agrees....there have to be two signatures for this referral. If a second doctor won't agree I have to go to audiology....that seems to be the usual route.... who will then refer me to E.N.T.

Seems a faff to me...but heyho....I'm used to faff now.....☺

Am I on the right track do you both think?

Thanks Gx

G hope you get something sorted soon....I had appointment this morning, was told next Friday !! Well I got on my high horse.and demanded an appointment. Think the receptionist is a wee bit scared of me after septicaemia episode last year when she told me to just put a plaster on..after prolonged stay in hossie think they may have been told off ! Sqad will you do me a home visit...May not do any good but with your healing hands.. sigh.. ! Lol
@ gness Ahh, fair enough ;) I can certainly understand desperation leading someone to consider more or less anything, although I think it unlikely that homeopathy or acupuncture would offer you any substantive help. Spirit guides might though, assuming such things exist :)

Hi, Minty....I spent years on a high horse for MrG...sick to death of it now....

I think a Sqad visit would take my mind of the ears.....though I'd miss the sweet nothings.....unless he can sign.....xx
I can sign cheques - would that help?

If I try homeopathy....and it works.....how do I explain it? If it's the placebo effect does that mean this is not happening now....I am imagining it?

What a mess, I really didn't realise the NHS was as bad as the papers made out. Good luck Gness, it looks as if we're all up against it. xxx

Must be a third wummin, Minty....my shed's pink....☺
If the homeopathy can be shown to be the cause of any improvement, gness, I would be the first to applaud.

The placebo effect is powerful indeed - but I have never heard of it being able to cure a broken arm or a leg, or anything more substantive than pain or self-resolving illness.

Let's hope you deafen me again (temporarily) with your applause, LG....☺

Psyb....I now have sudden onset depression.... ;-)
Psybbo.

I HATE with a vengeance internet links in medicine, but yours was not only excellent but appropriate.

\\\\Sudden deafness is a medical emergency. Our advice is to go to A&E and ask for an emergency referral to ENT immediately.\\\\

That was the important part of it and sudden blindness is taken seriously, but sudden deafness isn't.

What are they teaching medical students today.........problem is, that it is not popular to criticise the NHS, it's workings or it staff...........but this is POOR treartment and i am OUTRAGED and yes, I AM shouting.
It's always hard to know what to do in these cases. I'd advise you to try anything that might work and is worth the risk. Homeopathy is probably not going to work, but if you feel it's worth risking some money for then... up to you.

Man, these waiting times are annoying though! What do they expect people to do in the meantime? Stands to reason that some will lose patience and go elsewhere for treatment.
