Ferritin Levels

I recently had a repeat blood test as the GP wanted to see if something had changed in my liver, didn't catch what exactly. The receptionist has called today to tell me that my doc wants to see me regarding my results but can't until the end of next week as the GP is away.

Receptionist said it was regarding my FERRITIN levels. I can only assume that they are higher or lower than they should be as the Doc wants to see me. What could this mean?

I have quite a few health problems over the last couple of years and they are stumping most people I see. The blood test was repeated as a shot in the dark really as we have decided to start from scratch as though I have not been treated for anything and I am a new patient if you like.

In a nutshell it is how much iron you have stored in your body.

Too much OR too little.

Nothing really life threatening in those values, but the commonest abnormality by far is iron deficiency anaemia.

Thanks Sqad - could it be linked do you think to my health problems. My undiagnosed 'Acid Reflux', Chest pains, Tiredness (iron so I guess yes) etc... Or am I just unlucky enough to have another thing going on at the same time?

It would be nice it this could explain what has been going on all this time, if it can be rectified.

I don't know.

We will have to wait and see if the levels are too high or too low first.......OR to even repeat the test.

Your skin wouldn't happen to be a shade of bronze would it?

If so investigate Hemochromatosis.

No Beso I am as pale as pale could be - always have been. But thanks for the suggestion.
