I am posting this as i believe that Fred departed this life and i feel that he should not go unappreciated.
He came onto the AB some two years ago and immediately his posts, based mainly on personal experience, were discussed openly and gave great insight and advice to those that had a problem with alcohol. His knowledge of the law and current affairs were invaluable assets to the threads of Answerbank.
The vast majority of ABers are “ships in the night” and soon forgotten but i felt that Fred deserved more and this post is just to say “ Thank you Fred for your contributions.”
It is extremely likely that a complication of Alcoholism took his life.

I have been worried about him, as you say a knowledgeable man with a sense of humour and very open about his alcohol problems.
I was hoping that Barmaid would be able to confirm Fred's demise but she has not been posting lately.
I liked 'Fred'.

I was beginning to wonder why I hadn't seen his name around for so long and was not even aware that he was ill. Sad news, indeed, for me and I probably knew him for longer than anyone else on AnswerBank. You see, we were both fixtures on an American Q and A website for years before we 'migrated' to AB.
If his passing is confirmed, "Cheers, Fred; it was good knowing you."
