I received my kit this week but haven't yet started to collect my samples.
As it's awkward, pooing onto your hand, would it still be a true sample if you were to take a smear from the toilet paper instead?

Yes Tilly - I had to do one about 2 years ago and I think I did that. Good luck with the result as mine satisfied me.

Why not use, for example, an old ice cream or margarine tub?

Getting a margarine tub under your bum, whilst you hover over the toilet, is not easy.

Best thing for you to do is ring them. I do remember ringing them and they are very helpful.

It's not pleasant but neither is bowel cancer which took the life of a great friend. The scraping from tissue is fine . Use the "pooh sticks"!

The kit we receive in France includes sheets of paper which go across the toilet bowl and are held in place when the seat is lowered. They sag a bit to give room for the turds. Still not perfect, but I would think that there is not a problem in collecting samples from toilet paper.

I just laid a clean plastic bag on the bathroom floor and squatted over it. Happy to say my results were reassuring.

I put toilet paper in the pan before opening my bowels. It was then easy to use the poo sticks before flushing

All things considered, I prefer A.A. Milne's version of the game. :-)

Seriously though, a few sheets of bogroll folded over in the hand enabled me to mine a good sample.

I did the test two weeks ago and thankfully it turned out ok.

The method I used was to put a plastic container into the pan above the water and put lots of loo paper on top of the container.

You do your 'business' and use the two sticks to take seperate smears from the result - seems to work ok.

Then just empty the contents of the container down the pan and pull the chain.

Clean everything up and continue with your day - no big deal!

I just do it from the toilet paper. It seems to work, I haven't been diagnosed with anything yet (touch wood)
