antibiotics and the sun

I am due to go abroad on holiday next week and have been on antibiotics for some time(doxycline) i stopped taking it about 2 weeks ago because my acne deteriorated rapidly the last time i went in the sun and i was on antibiotics, my dilemma is, my acne is quite bad at the moment (prob because i've come off treatment) do i start to take antibiotics again (i have a new box of erythromycin, so it would'nt be the doxycline) and risk a sensitivity reaction . Apparently the cyline family are renowned for causing side effects in the sun, does anyone know if erythromycin is likely to do the same or does anyone know of an antibiotic that is safe to take in the sun?

Ok...well after having my son I developed acne on my arms. I waited eighteen months before I went to the doctors with it, I was going on holiday too. She gave me erythromycin but in the topical form...a dabber to be exact. It worked a treat with no side effects....although...it's kind of stopped working as well now I am back in England. I think personally that the sea water, chlorine in the water mixed with the natural healing properties of the sun are sufficient. If I still have it next holiday I won't bother with anything. I imagine that if you are taking antibiotics over a period of time they don't work as well in any case. Good luck anyway.

Hi baggysenior, I also take erythromycin and have taken it for 6 months. I did have a bad reaction in the sun, my arms, legs and tummy were painful and I had itchy blotches. I used a high factor sun cream and was sensible but the rash developed on the last day of my holiday and lasted about a week. Sorry it wasn't better news, but that was me and you may be different. I got Doxycycline for sinusitis.It does warn you to avoid sunlight.Howver I had a reaction to it with the result I cant touch it again.Point being you are maybe one of those people who are hyper sensitive to any medication.

I have to say I have had no probs with Erythromycin but I would agree the sun will probably be more help than anything - specially if you are drinking loads of water.
