Obviously if you are able to, but I do know people who are of my age or older who do take a nap during the day.Just recently I have fallen asleep every day without fail between 5pm and 6pm and wondered if perhaps I wouldn't do this if I took a nap in the afternoon but then I don't think I would be able to sleep when I go to bed.

I'm seventy three, have a siesta every afternoon for about half an hour, find it refreshes me for the rest of the day.
Quite often,but not intentionally.
I don't, I just go to bed early if I feel tired.
Nope....
If I'm not working I usually have a nap in the afternoon or early evening. I go to bed in the early hours of the morning so need to catch up on sleep. I'm in my forties.
I have been known to on days off or weekends, but not commonly.

However my nightly sleeping habits are becoming more and more erratic; I have little issue with dropping off, but something tends to wake me too early these days.

I think the human race evolved to sleep more than one period per 24 hours, and maybe I can't over-ride that as easily as I used to in order to fit in with social convention.

If you feel a "power nap" for an hour is useful mid afternoon, set an alarm and go for it. Siesta Power !

For some strange reason there are no names under the avatars although I do recognise ummmm and cloverjo (sorry if I have that wrong) and I think you are both young ish so perhaps it hasn't bothered you yet.Old geezer I think I will try it on a day when I'm at home in the afternoon but I just wondered if it would stop me sleeping at night as I would hate that.
maybe on a Saturday afternoon if the snooker is on the goggle-box.
If I ever nod off during the day I feel really sick for hours after I waken up.I try not to now.
It would be instead of the 5 to 6 nap ;-)

In which case it ought not affect your night sleep any more than that does. But if it turns out you do wake up refreshed and ready for the day an hour earlier then it's not so bad.
Oh! yes........45 min nap after lunch everyday.
Even before I retired I would have a nap after lunch whenever and wherever possible....even in pub car parks or on the examination couch of a consulting room.
Yes, most days. I have to be up for work pretty early (5.30am for a 6.30 start) and if I didn't I'd be falling asleep by about 7pm.
Hi, Barsel......when I do I call it my power nap....so I can keep going all evening.....and night if necessary.....

So hate when my friends in their sixties and seventies start flagging after midnight......☺
I beleive sqad is in the country , where a nap/ siesta is mandatory

gness you little raver you. :-) sorry there are still no names under the avatars so cannot reply to the jelly baby ones.Old Geezer, when I fall asleep between 5 and 6, I am sitting up on the sofa and I don't purposely fall asleep, but if I was to take a proper nap and lay down it would be different and I would have to set an alarm as I would probably not wake up for hours.
I nap every single day. I get up at 6 am with my other half, he goes to work at 6.45 and I get our son up for school at 7 am, I then go straight back to bed and awake at between 9 and 10.30 am.

I'm 46.
If I nodded off for even five minutes during the day I would never get to sleep at night. I stay up till around midnight every night and then read for about half an hour, and am up with the lark around 6.30 to 7am.
I would love to siesta everyday! Unfortunately by the time I get in from work it's a bit late. I think I will make an effort to get home by 4.00 and have a doze for 45 mins. / 1 hour. You have all convinced me it's not hedonistic.
Sometimes feel like it but know I will feel dreadful after so just make sure I don't do it. I envy those who can. My partner is always dropping off.
I feel terrible if I 'drop off for a while' so try to fight urges to do so, honestly it makes me feel ill and sick when I wake up. If I do 'nap' it is a sure sign that I am not well. My mother could 'take a nap', my father was like me.

Very rarely I will suddenly 'crash out' in the evening - always associated with stressful times.
