after having a badly infected tooth removed recently, i was prescribed amoxiciliana ratiopharma, to clear up the infection. i stopped taking them after 3 days, thinking everything was fine, but shortly afterwards my nose became stuffy again with phlegm. so i started taking them again, but they are now making me feel like a zombie!! lasting more than 12 hours. Should i take 1/2 pill instead of a full one for the next 3 days?

So half the day you feel like a "zombie."

I shouldn't take any more antibiotics and see what transpires to the "phlegmy nose."

sqad, it was a strange feeling this morning, I ´d taken 3 pills yesterday, the last one at midnight. I had to send a few emails this morning around 10am. they were fairly important, but twice they were returned due to silly errors. I am desperate to get this nasal problem resolved, but it looks like i´m stuck with it.

Not necessarily....the tooth is out and the sinus is draining, albeit pus. One needs to give it time to settle.
It may settle without antibiotics or further surgery.
It may settle with another course of antibiotics.
It may need further surgery.

only time will tell.

rosetta, whats your take on side effects? wouldn´t you a be a little worried if all of a sudden you turned into a zombie? or would you carry on with the prescribed dossage for a week?
I'm no doctor, but maybe completing the course of antibiotics would have been a better decision ?
A blocked nose and particularly blocked sinuses can make you feel thick headed and zombie-like. It might not be because of the antibiotics.

237sj, i wasnt drowsy before taking the pills, and even now i feel drowsy, 48 hours after my last pill. what the pills did also was make me dehydated, so much so, i´ve now got a headache, dry lips & throat. In hindsight, would it have been better if i had reduced the dossage, to 1/2 pill instead of a full pill?
in hindsight, better to have done what Dr Asquith says. You're supposed to take the full course to clear up the infection for good; you didn't; it returned.

Now, try what Dr Sqad says.
I don`t know piggynose but bugs do make you feel like that. I`ve had a bug all week and they do make you feet sleepy and your eyes feel tired. Feeling like you do isn`t a common side effect of those antibiotics. Dehydration makes you feel like a Zombie as well. Make sure you keep hydrated.
*feel* not feet!
jno..................tut tut. I am no doctor, as you well know :)
So you've taken half a course which has killed some of the bugs but not all. The remainder are now busily learning how to beat this antibiotic, so when the rest of us catch it the antibiotic will be no use.
This is exactly the cause of the current worry about antibiotics losing their effectiveness.
your advice is sound, anne, I'd go with it. As bhg says, piggynose's irresponsibility has probably exposed the rest of humanity to a future of disease and untimely death :-(
Re: your question about reducing the dose to half a pill - I wouldn`t do that because that`s how you reduce drug resistant bugs.
237^^^^^^^...I think you mean "produce"....
Jeez - *produce* not reduce. See - I told you I`m feeling zombie -like as well and I`m not on antibiotics.
