Power Of Our Subconscious
16 Answers
have read loads (and loads and loads) of the power of our subconscious minds....everything from Freud to Derren brown and everything in between.
Apperantly our subconscious is responsible for all our actions, behaviours etc.
Is it just me that thinks that its all a croc of crp?
Whats the point of having a CONSCIOUS mind if all we do is out of our awareness?

I dont buy all this subconscious sh t anymore. I was only joking about Derren Brown, we all know hes a (very clever) conjuror but all the other stuff??
WHY do we all have a subconscious if our lives are lived in CONSCIOUS awareness? There are so many sites that tell us how to 'programme' our subconscious to better our lives etc, seems like so much snake oil to me.
(but maybe my subconscious is directing me to these things?).....

Interesting subject the mind,Back in the 70's a guy called Amall Bloxham published a book based on a series of tapes he'd made of hypnotic regression sessions of different subjects.A lot of the things that came out were rubbish but some of things that came out of them were later proven to be true, though how these people knew of them was never explained.
How many things can you concentrate on at once ? Are you breathing in, did you get your heart to beat, have you decided to be hungry, did you see that car coming...
You need everything sorted for you in order to have the freedom to think you are your conscious mind. Wait until you get old enough for it to not work 100% and then you'll get an inkling.

I believe in it although I don't believe it's responsible for 'all' our actions.
I suffered really badly with psoriasis for years. Apparently it's a stress related condition. I felt fine but obviously my mind wasn't fine. It's not until the stresses you didn't know were there are taken away that you realise that it was your subconscious trying to give you signals.
Another thing....If I skip meals I dream about food.

I doubt many claim the conscious has no function. As mentioned it presumably has, to exist. Ok possibly it could arise and not be a hindrance to survival, but chances are it proved useful.
But the issue, I believe, is more around most of the things we assume are conscious are, in fact, performed by the subconscious. One has only to think of how difficult it is to learn a new skill, because the conscious is involved in making decisions, and how easy it is to excel when one is "in the zone", the conscious taking a spectator role and the subconscious doing its thing. For example, when you first learnt to talk or to read, did you not stumble over every word ? And now you don't even put the sentence together, you know what you want to say and it just comes out right (if you are lucky).
At best the conscious may issue the overall directive but recent experiments suggest the brain has made a decision before the conscious is aware it has done so; implying a even smaller role for the conscious. It thinks it is in charge, that it is the real "you", but is that just a comfortable illusion ?

If a child is brought up surrounded by love, praise for its achievements, and security, it will probably grow to be a confident adult with the voice of the subconscious, like a Guardian Angel, regularly whispering encouragement.
Conversely, a poorly brought up child might end up with an inner voice dripping poison and forever running it down.
