Good Queenie, very common procedure for lots of different reasons and very well tolerated really - not pleasant but then what is?

Thanks Mamya, I was just annoyed at the vagueness in the leaflet. I'm not worried though but I do want to know what will be happening. Fingers crossed :)

I had a colposcopy at the tender age of 21.

The procedure is painless and they'll probably take a biopsy to send to histology.

You'll then be called back for a smear every year for 10 years.

Try not to worry. I'm 38 now and all my subsequent smears were normal.

The worst part is just the indignity. Mind you, I had several student nurses looking on at the time of the procedure.

Thank you NoM, I dont mind them doing it although they may find me a little awkward (don't ask) I just hope that like yourself everything comes back ok. Thank you for your advice and insight

I had one at a similar age to NoMercy to get a lump checked out, also with a room full of students! Not that I minded. They took it off with a heated wire loop thing from memory. Was a bit uncomfortable but not too bad (I find smears uncomfortable too though).

Mine was some time ago but was advised to "abstain" for a while after if that is an issue, 6 weeks I believe I was told.
