What happens when doctors cut the umbilical cord from the mother and baby? Does the doctor stich the cord back into the mother or does it go back in automatically when she is done giving birth?

The umbilical cord is attached to the placenta, which the mother 'gives birth to' a few minutes after the baby is born.
As spudqueen said, the cord is attached to the placenta which is usually delivered in the 3rd stage of labour.
