Just recently my knees make a crunching creaking noise when I walk up stairs. What causes this and how can I get rid of it?!

Probably a bit of wear and tear due to age....early osteo-arthritis.

There was a thread on here some time ago, saying that cycling was good for early OA........I have my worries about that though.

Creak on....no big deal until the onset of pain, then seek medical advice.

Overweight are we ferdie?

My old knees click when I come down stairs. Some days it's really bad and it sound like I'm playing castanets !

Hi! janbee.
I find ear plugs work well.
Buy a bungalow...
My knees stopped clicking...but then my back started. It comes and goes.
You must be all over the place when it's gone !
:-) lol
My knee does that and I've got a torn cartilage :(
I developed knee problems in my mid-forties from years of overloading them. They would click and pop when I walked, especially on steps and sitting in one place for extended time was agony.

The specialist said I had early osteo-arthritis and advised me to avoid climbing stairs or ladders so that I could put off getting a knee replacement for as long as I could put up with the pain. I asked what could be done in the meantime and he said that there was nothing. I was clearly disheartened and as I left he half jokingly suggested that I eat the cartilage off the end of the chicken bones.

I took up eating geletine in the form of jelly lollies and several years later my knees have not been this good for a very long time. I did rest my knees for several years and had to build up the muscles around them again but I no longer have any knee problems.

Thank you so much Beso. I will hit the jelly!
Snap ... I have had one knee do exactly as you describe for at least the past 25 years.
My cartilage on the inside of my knee had completely disappeared and it had been bone on bone for some years now. (osteo arthritis)
Earlier this year I had the bone resurfaced and I have been pain free since.
It's amazing not having the pain... still can't kneel though !
