Partly caused my market forces (8 cremations to every burial these days) and there are new rules coming in (2017 I think) about emissions that affect velocity and new filters being fitted. I was told about this by the manager of the local crematorium who invited me to their open day - I think he loves his job! He even offered to take me down to see where the coffins go but I declined.

They are having to fit larger cremation chambers to accommodate larger people, as well as improve the air filters.

Pity we don't have vultures here, they specialise in clearing up bodies left outside for nothing.

I don't know if ABers are aware of direct cremation? It is a lot cheaper for those of us who don't want a 'ceremony'. I have it planned for myself, - where the person is taken from the place where they die (hospital?) to the crematorium as soon as there is an 'opening'. No one is present. I have always hated funerals, and is seems a simpler way of doing things.

Worth a thought, and obviously depends on what you believe and what you want.

The cost of cremation (SW London) is £550 I don`t think that`s excessive. It`s the funeral directors who bump up the price.

Agree with above. Quoted £600.00 for my husband's actual cremation, final amount paid, with no extras, very close to £2,000.
