How long do antibiotics take to kick in? I don't remember ever having as a grown-up so I'm pretty clueless.

Ok, thank you.
This may be too late, but I tend to take a double dose first time....I think it helps to kick start things.
Sorry if you're under the weather. :-( and hope you feel better really soon.
ladyalex, you should only do that if you are told to.
I was once, ages ago and have done it ever since.
Still alive and kicking.
Mind you, I am fortunate that I do not often need antibiotics.

Thanks all - I have a manky finger (a paronycia), my own fault it was unpleasant on Friday but a bit black yesterday. Doctor lanced it (that was a treat) and got prescribed 500ml fluc something. Hadn't been to the doctor for nearly 7 1/2 years - not going back in a hurry :(
Depends.

What do you mean by "kick in?" Start feeling better? Pain going?
It will also depend upon the correct antibiotic for the "offending bug". If is it is the "wrong un" then it will never kick in. Also, you will never feel better despite antibiotics if there is "trapped pus."

Basically...I like bednobs answer.....if they haven't "kicked in by 72 hours max......something is amiss.

A paronychia can be quite prolonged in it's recovery.
