Chest Infection Tonsilitis And High Blood Sugar

I was wondering if an infection increases your blood sugars I have a blood sugar reading of 12.7 but I have a chest infection and tonsilitis at the same time was at the doc today and given penicillin 25omg x 2 (4x a day) for a week I have a pretty infected throat does fighting an infection put blood sugar up? I have taken all my metromin today 4 of them I think that is the max dose.
