Reports From Pyciatrists

i have mental health problems diagnosed with one thing to another verbally by the psychiatrist how do i get the reports/answers?

someone said they cant tell you certain things but it is ridiculous. do gps who like all doctors have access to system one their computer system for recording your medical records include psychiatric history?

thanks for that i read similar on the mind website.

i asked the receptionist at my gp for my records and she said its £50,but on researching it i found several articles from newspapers calling this unfair and the saying they are going to change it.

can anyone (sqad) maybe tell me if system one holds psychiatric problems and reports as like mentioned there is a separate system for mental health called RIO.

I don't work with NHS. But there isn't anything a psychiatrist "can't" tell you. It is all on their system, but they will only put it in writing if they are totally sure of the diagnosis. If they have just made suggestions, they won't.

Do you see the psychiatrist at a hospital or day unit? You need to ask the admin there about getting access to your notes. There should also be a PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) department who are employed especially to help with things like this.

hi, in our area, RiO is not integrated to ll services yet. And definately not GPs. you can't apply to one place for all your notes, you hve to apply to the individul services. GP is a good start because they will have clinic letters from all NHS service you've seen (plus discharge letters etc)

plus reports from psychiatrists (in my area at least) cn be got either from the mental hospital you were seen at or from the senior clinicin if you re talking bout community services

I think this is a hangover from the access to medical records act 1990 which is now incorporated into the data protection act

it had a let out that if the doctor thought the information was damaging to the patient then that bit of info need not be disclosed

I know of no instance where this has occurred

I think the charge is a bit high ( £50 ) and I think there is case law where it says charges should NOT be used to discourage access requests

Type Your Answer Here...ask them to send you paper copies of your cae plan/risk assessments and issues discussed following a shrink appointment. i get one every time, you are entitled to them and they are nice, well-summarised documents. don't do it however if you are overly sensitive, disagree with your diagnosis or don't get on with your shrink.....it will annoy the hell out of you! and you don't have to pay for them, and you get regular updates which are useful. good luck x

This just goes to show that the sufferers are just as alarmed by the diagnosis names as the rest of the population are. Maybe discuss these fears with your psychologist, at the next opportunity?
