Sqad - I just know after a period of time I definitely have arthritis in my right elbow. The pain is endless. I have used rubs, ibrufen alll the painkillers.
It is funny that I know it is rheumatoid because of other pain in my body this is so different. Going to the GP doesn't do it for me - they just offer you another rub.
Can I get it going maybe swimming or anything. I have suffered manys a thing but this take the cream of the biscuit. Any advice would be welcome. thank you.

You know the feeling it is definitely rheumotoid - completely different from the rest of the pain- the other pain in the body fibrobyoglgia, neck pain, stress pain, all kinds over the years thank God I have been able to cope this - is unbelieveable - - you know lifting the kettle,, pouring the water from the potato pan, then pouring that scalding water onto my toes - no control - pouring the water from your gravy. But I thank God I know there are people on this earth suffering far far far so much than me. So I pray for his help. thanks for being interested in me Mama - don't get married today LOL we need you
Good morning JJ
Persistent pain in your elbow does not shout either Osteoarthritis or Rheumatoid, although the latter could possibly be an outside choice.
It is important to differentiate the two conditions and this could be done by X-Rays and blood tests as there are many other causes of arthritis.
If this is the only joint involved, then a local cause may well be present e.g Tennis Elbow.
It is important that you return to your GP despite your comments.
Since my time on AB doctors have been slated for being "idiotic", too young, too old, you name it and ABers have used it to criticise the medical profession.
Get a diagnosis and a treatment will follow.

Ummm - like anybody else probably on this site - the elbow is one issue of pain. With fibromyalgia there is pain throughout the whole body and I know nothing can be done so learn to live with it - along with other issues that you have to get through the day.
When I burnt my toes 3 weeks ago I couldn't walk just got about with sandals so Maxie didn't get out. Now that toes have mended took him to the park yesterday and he wouldn't come back to me for about an hour I was worried sick. He came back when he was ready. I was very upset and rang the vet to organise a training session for recall - long story cut short - he is too old for them to take him at a year but the vet nurse gave me good advice over the phone and I tried it last night with chicken etc and it worked so am hoping this will work. She said it was the fact that he hadn't been out for 3 weeks and I know that myself. In the middle of all this my hearing aid - my saving grace broke down - went to what used to be a walk in clinic to get it fixed and it is now appointments only - that upset me as I now realise that without the hearing aid I am I would say 98% deaf when I used to be 50/50. She had a cancellation last night at 6.30 and I was lucky to get it fixed. Other things too. Nobody wants the story of your life. And so doctors cannot fix the story of your life.

Jennyjoan , GP's may not have all the time in the world to listen to all our woes - but they can point you in the right direction.
It strikes me you have hit a time in your life when everything has snowballed up and it feels like one knock after another.
There is help out there , practical and lots more , please seek it.

they are battery controlled. they are not things you can fix yourself.
There can be something with aid itself, tubing, condensation, and batteries.
The old hearing aids were far easier to fix I fixed them myself for years, so it is frustrating when it could just a little thing wrong you have to go to hospital. All all all too much and frustrating. The wee nurse fixed it in like 5 seconds.
On the other hand I have an appointment to see a consultant re my left shoulder after a scan I had two weeks ago so will mention the right elbow. Thanks all.

jj, I am so sorry to hear about your pains. I cannot imagine what it must be like to have no respite from it.
It seems to me that some good things have happened to you. Yes, I know Maxie ran away, but then he DID come back of his own accord and you learned a tip on how to get him back if he does it again.
I know your hearing aid broke, but then a cancellation appointment came up and you DID manage to get it repaired.
I can only guess that if you are in such awful pain it must be hard to see any positives in life....but they are there.
You have dealt with a lot in your life, so being firm with a young doctor should be no problem. Tell him you would like further tests.
Have you ever been referred to a pain clinic?

thanks Mrs O - no pain clinic. I hate complaining because there are so many people suffering far far more than me. For instance my niece is caring for a lady with MS that her body is contortion that my niece is terrified of washing her in case she hurts this arm or that shoulder etc so as a friend of mine would say - as long as you walk - that's everything.
I agree that in chronic pain conditions that sometimes help can be limited but if you don't speak to a doctor then you may be suffering to a degree that it needless.
I have rheumatoid arthritis (does the other elbow hurt or any smaller joints like in your hands as it often targets them before the larger joints and is often symmetrical so in both sides of the body in the joints it attacks), fibromyalgia and orthopaedic issues (in my knees) as well as Menieres Disease, which I seem to remember you have also?
Is the pain inside the joint or around it? Could it be bad tendonitis, like sqad suggests, tennis elbow? Fibromyalgia can wreak havoc on muscles, tendons etc... and fibro sufferers tend to have increased pain responses generally. I've had elbow tendonitis and it is really painful and can interfere a lot. When properly diagnosed, maybe there are other treatments like some kind of physio or seeing an osteopath might help.
I work with my doctors and it's not like a one stop shop with chronic pain where they just give you some magic pills and all the pain goes away but some relief is better than none and you have to work at things, trial and error with drugs and other therapies. Mrs O's suggestion of a pain clinic is a great one, you never know what else they can try that may work. As she says, there are no prizes for suffering.
I've had all sorts, physio, osteopathy, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, steroid injections, massage etc... as well as pain medication which have all helped, even if the effect was limited or didn't last, it's something. Your GP and consultant is the key in managing day to day issues like pain relief and management and a gateway to all sorts of other services.
I hope your shoulder appointment goes ok. I'm starting a new therapy in a week or so on mine as I have impingement in both but the tendons have been suffering, lack of use from pain probably not helping, although steroid joint injections have been great in the past. It's an ultrasound therapy which sounds exciting!
One thing I've been told is that there can be a tendency to not move too much and give in to the pain and fatigue, especially with fibro, but that the less you move and give in the worse it can get. Like with physio exercises, you often have to work at something to get benefit.
Definitely easier said than done but something like swimming could be therapeutic, maybe check with the GP/consultant first to make sure it's suitable. Why not ask about whether you could benefit from hydrotherapy via physio to learn some exercises to help, I found it brilliant and makes such a difference without the weight on your joints to exercise, in a heated pool too.
Some of the younger GPs at my practice have been fantastic for me, give them a chance. They are all highly trained. My main GP can't be that much different in age to me and she is wonderful. If you are resistant to listen to their advice or accept suggestions then it would make it hard for them to help you. Have they suggested any diagnosis already (even if it's one you don't think is right) and/or undertaken any tests so far?

thanks for that essay Eve - I enjoyed it LOL - I follow your story and know you are in extreme pain and I would say definitely far far far more pain than myself.
To answer about the elbow (am hopeless in explaining) it feels pain around the elbow the amazing thing is it is not painful to touch just sorta pain. I believe fibro is the cause of most of the pain. Even when I shower and let the water run on my face I can feel pain on my cheek bones. Also Eve I suffer so much from stress and I can't help it - I just worry about I guess everything in life so that wouldn't help. So now I am going to shut up and put up. I find paracodal sorta helps me and calms me too.
Off the record for anybody who is interested - went back to Credit Union tonight for the first time - a bit apprehensive re the carry on of cuppla weeks ago. One person has been replaced - I have got a different seat but tonight went well better than expected. Thanks Eve for taking all the trouble for typing all that up.
