I have been getting quite bad pain around my tail bone for about two months now, I did see the Doctor at first, he stood me in front of him and pressed round the area, said that I had bruised it somehow and that it would get better on its own, I told him I hadn't done anything to hurt it and he said to use anti inflamertary gel (but didn't give me any) the pain is still there and sitting is most uncomfortable, do you think I should go back to the Doctor yet or give it more time?

Coccydinia.

Can be troublesome but usually responds to NSaids e.g Ibuprofen.

In the majority of cases 99%, the cause is unknown. if the pain is tolerable, then tolerate it, if not go back to your GP as Injection of cortisone may help.
you do not need a presciirption for anti inflammatory gel, you can buy it over the counter. However, i think its rubbish anyway, and youd be better off with anti inflammatory tabs (which you can also buy OTC)
I agree with bednobs for the severe pain of Coccydinia, the gel is "rubbish."
Have had it a few time Biccy - no need to go back to doctors - it just takes a pretty long time - months even - you will get up one day and the pain has gone.

Taking the weight off your coccyx by sitting on a firmish cushion with a U shape cut out of the back was helpful to me, I made my own by buying a piece of firm foam from an upholsterers and cutting out a piece of it. Don’t use memory foam, use the kind called “orthopaedic” or max firm.
Try the tennis ball cure.

1. lie on your back on the floor
2. Put tennis ball under pain area (coccyx)
3. Gently, slowly rotate coccyx over tennis ball
