What's wrong with Easter Eggs?
I don't know the full reasoning behind the Easter Eggs but it is most possible that the desire to sell more eggs is a major factor.

Islay, some chocolate manufacturers are apparently dropping the word Easter from their packaging. I don't know if this is true. I don't buy them, so haven't looked. There was a big crowd around the Easter egg display in my local Tesco yesterday, though, so most of us aren't really bothered, I guess.
I forgot to mention - dropping the word Easter is so we don't offend non-Christians apparently. There was a thread about here this earlier in the week. What rot! I'm not a Christian, but I'm not remotely offended by the word, and I'd bet no one else is.

Looks like it worked.
Perhaps it's not a case of offending non-Christians. Calling them Easter eggs sort of implies "for Christians"; calling them chocolate eggs means anyone can eat them who likes chocolate, along with increased sales. Similar to the New Zealanders not calling their lamb halal - it causes a lot of people not to buy it.
Easter has been written in the main wording on the boxes for easter eggs for years - if you turn it around you will see the wording on the back! The chocolate eggs you buy has more to do with advertising than with Easter.

How many people actually know what the 'Easter Egg' is supposed to represent? And how many chocolate eggs actually do what they are supposed to do?
Sorry should read 'has not'
^Humpty-Dumpty?

Rather than designed to wind people up, it is actually designed to sell more eggs. To make more money for the manufacturer.

By dropping 'Easter' it means they can be sold for a longer period rather than jst for a weekend.

Cadbury's creme Eggs and Lindt Bunnies were originally Easter treats that are now sold all year round.
