Could be an old filling disintegrating or a side effect of medication.

thanks hc. Not long had a dental check up so don't think its that. Ive been on the same medication for some years with no metallic taste
Have you got a blocked nose or sinuses?
Question Author
No, nothing like that hc.
Had my usual egg on toast this morning and I had to leave half of it the taste of metal was so bad.
Question Author
Had a look here https://health.clevelandclinic.org/2015/04/8-possible-causes-for-that-metallic-taste-in-your-mouth/ but none of them apply to me (with the possible exception of number 7 lol)
Are you taking any drugs ?
Question Author
mirtazapine and tramadol Anne but ive been on them for a few years now. The metal taste is a recent thing
I know you've recently been to the dentist but could you possibly have some trapped food between your teeth? I only needs to be there for a day or two to cause this effect, especially if it's meat
Question Author
Don't think so hc, I floss regularly. Ive had this taste for a couple of weeks now and its getting worse. Im brushing my teeth all the time just to disguise it.
As you've had it two weeks, see your GP.

It is possible that the compound of one of your drugs has changed, such as the filler or coating, which has caused this bad taste, but it could be a symptom of something the doctor can sort out
My daughter had that and was diagnosed with an overactive thyroid.
I was going to suggest number 6 Nailit, but I see you are immune.
Question Author
Definitly not number 6 Hopkirk, havnt had sex for ages, lol
Even if you had ...

oh get someone else to explain.
As one poster states... see your doctor, but in the mean time, drink lotsa water...
Liver? Are whites of eyes yellowing?
With all the advice and your replies, the answer is quite simple.
Providing that you have no other symptoms e.g deafness or discharging ear.........you will just have to monitor the situation.......wait and see if anything develops.

Not sure how your GP could improve on that advice.
Although unlikely, the following link gives a possible cause (knowledge is power).

A bit late replying but thanks for additional answers guys. Looks like a trip to the docs if it doesn't go away soon.
Thanks again.
