I know many professional couples and in my experience it is always the woman who is expected to drop work to deal with family and home emergencies. The man considers himself too important for his work to be interrupted just because little Johnny has fell off the climbing frame and broken his arm.

Many that is why some female consultants opt for 'family friendly' working hours.
