Fungal Nail Infection

I have had this for ages now. Half of my big toe is covered in a brownish shade and is brittle. All the over the counter treatments have failed. I also suffer with athletes foot on the same foot.
Would my GP prescribe something stronger that can be taken orally to finally rid me of my unsightly toe!?

I have this and my GP prescribed some white tablets which have made me constipated.............not good as I'm in a wheelchair. I've both been told and read that Vickes Vaporub will cure the fungus if applied twice a day so am trying this.. It's the thymol in the Vicks that tackles the fungus.

I am willing to try anything - will try vapour rub and pop to the GP next week. I have also read some of the answers in "related questions" below which were helpful

Something stronger than what?

Go to your GP and get a diagnosis...that is what fungus is causing your problem, this will involve taking scrapings and sending them to the laboratory for identification....there being many types of fungi. He may also check your blood for diabetes.

Then....and only then would he prescribe and in all likelihood would give you anti-fungal drugs....BY MOUTH.

I`m examining the options on the laser treatment does anyone have experience of that to share. Mine is only on my big toes and doesnt sound as bad as yours.

Hi Sqad - shouldn't be diabetes as this was eliminated during a series of bloods last year.
So based on the type of fungi the answer is YES - a doctor should prescribe something by mouth after 4 months of no change from using the paint on stuff from the chemist!?

I got prescribed Amorolfine. It's a lacquer that you paint on to the affected nail.
I've been using it for approx 9 moths now and if anything, it's now worse than it was before.
I see another visit to the doc's approaching, when this stuff eventually runs out ......

Listerine - the mouthwash put on daily gets rid of it.
