Similar symptoms - shortness of breath and congestion peaked when having windows installed (the glues) and drove me to see doctor. Weeks of filling-in chart and experimental inhaler have ended with me have quite suddenly becoming diagnosed as asthmatic. I'm 67! Apparently it is quite common and when it does happen you become sensitive to lots and lots of things (your body sort of gives up bothering).
I should see your GP. Mine is not under control and I'm singing better than ever. :)
