Pilonidal Sinus

A week ago my daughter had a small op to remove a pilonidal sinus. The wound has been stitched and she is wondering how long it should take to heal and when she will be able to return to work. Has anyone else had any problems with this? A year ago she had it drained and had to have a couple of months off work but after having a few infections they decided to cut it out this time. Any advice would be appreciated.

I had one that was cut out. They didn't stitch it up though as the wound needs to heal from the inside outwards. I had to have it packed every morning for a couple of weeks. Then every other day for a week... in total it was a month, depends how big the sinus was I think.

My daughter was off work for 7 weeks Bird. She had an op and was told no stitches yet when the nurse visited her at home to change the packing she found 3 stitches!  Then an infection set in so,anti/biots with a soothing seaweed based " Iodine" ointment. Her bottom was in a heck of a mess.

I also had a pilonidal sinus and  it was left open with a drain, and had to be packed daily by the district nurse.  Took about a month in all.  Good luck.

I had a similar experience to the others, but I was only told a couple of weeks into my recovery that I should have shaved the area around the scar to prevent any further hairs infecting follicles. Best wishes to your daughter, it's a nasty and embarrasing thing to deal with (but it's OK in the end!).
