Apologies for asking this again but I'm hoping someone will have some knowledge of ankle problems. Any idea what this is.. My ankle will often be too painful to stand on. Like something is "caught". Twisted. I flick my ankle in a clockwise motion maybe 4 or 5 times. Then it does several clicks all at once click-click-click-click really fast, and then it's better. Sometimes it is really hard to get 'back in' and other times needs only one twist. It has been this way for many years and is a real pain. I am hypermobile. Any idea what is causing this and is there an operation to sort it out?

Benign joint hypermobility syndrome (BJHS) is primarily seen in children and younger adolescents. It consists of joint hypermobility (joints easily move beyond their normal expected range) associated with chronic exercise-related pain. Joints may become dislocated and then after a few well rehearsed movements "click back into position."....your ankle joint being a good example.
This situation is often encountered in hereditary conditions such as Marfan's Syndrome and Ehlos-Danlos syndrome ( I may have spelled the latter wrongly)
Joints often "click" and often develop pain and arthritis.
This is not my field of expertise but I am sure that there is no operative procedure for this irritating condition.

Thanks Sqad. Yes, I mention my hypermobility in case there is a new user who has a similar thing and can offer an opnion. I saw an ankle specialist who suggested a ligament reconstruction- a big operation of 2 weeks no-weight bearing and 6 weeks in plaster. My physio says that really is a last resort. I would be interested to know exactly what it is which is moving/slipping and stopping me weight bearing, as the specialist didn't really look- he just asked me to point my toes, and said I was hypermobile. I am hoping someone else may have had surgery or successful physio for this?
