Colcoscopy

After 3 years of hoping my smear will come back normal after several minor changes...it has come back Abnormal and I have to have a LLetz tissue sample taken.

While the other day I was utterly devastated after speaking with a few friends, I am ok and coping well, just wish mum was here to help me through this.

I just want to ask has anyone here had it done and can you explain the Local Anaesthetic procedure to me please, that is the one part I am not looking forward to. The Biopsy that was taken the other day left me in agony.

I've been warned that a sample of 1cm or less will be ok and if I get pregnant it won't be an issue but anything bigger and I might end up labouring early, which I am ok with and I feel I can cope well with that.

Just looking for a little reassurance or experiences or if anyone can point me in the direction of some helpful information that would be amazing.

No,I have never has a Colposcopy.
If it is just the cervical neck for a smear or punch biopsy then no anaesthesia is required......maybe a little "pulling" maybe a little "discomfort" but no pain.
A larger biopsy with a sympathetic Gynaecologist will give you a local anaesthetic.........but even then the slight "tugging" may well be present.

I've had swabs taken and another biopsy on Tuesday. Had a biopsy before don't remember it being like this though.

I've to go back for the other one - they said I will require a LA if I thought I could handle it I'd go without, but the pain from the other day I'd rather not chance it.

They could pull tug etc I can't tell the difference.

The chap I had the other day was lovely...he was making me laugh...not easy to do but I felt at ease with him.

Hi QoM, I had to have a colposcopy and punch biopsy at the tender age of 21 after an abnormal smear. I then had smears every year for 10 years, as per protocol. I've never had an abnormal smear since but I will continue to have a smear as and when one is due.

My risk factors are probably very slightly increased due to a family history of endometrial and breast cancer and my mother's elder sister dying in 2015 with vaginal melanoma.

As for the procedure, I never felt a thing and I walked out of hospital perfectly fine with a few basic post procedure instructions.

Yep had one. Not a desperately dignified position to sit in. AND I could see it all on the screen. Slight discomfort, nothing too hideous.

I had one after an abnormal smear, and the results came back fine. 99% it is precautionary. I had a pre cancerous thing, but nowt to worry about 25 years later.

Not nice, not dignified, but necessary. You'll be fine.

I know it's worth having done. I'm just a bit of a wuss sometimes.

I don't fancy seeing my insides though. So I'll pass on that.
