Vick Sinex And Hypertension

I have recently been diagnosed with nasal polyps which leaves me completely blocked up much of the time. The only thing to give relief is a quick squirt of Vick sinex nasal spray. I have been advised that as I am on Amlodipine for mild hypertension I should not be using it. The GP has prescribed a hydrocortisone spray in an attempt to shrink the polyps, which after five weeks has, as yet, had no noticeable effect.
My questions are. How bad is it to be having one dose of Sinex a day, which can last up to 12 hours, and are there any other safer options. (I have tried saline sprays which have no effect).

I have a few comments to make which may or may not be useful.
1) I am going to assume that you have nasal polyps which have been confirmed by an E.N.T specialist.
2)Whatever the "instructions" say, there is no good reason why Sinex spray should not be used in patients with treated or untreated hypertension (High BP(
3) The drug of choice is exactly as prescribed by your GP...steroid spray.....to which I entirely agree.
4) As steroid sprays are not helping it is unlikely that any other nasal spray is going to be of any help and you will need surgery.

Many thanks for prompt reply. These were my thoughts exactly. The polyps were diagnosed by GP but not as yet confirmed by an ENT specialist. The advice was to continue the cortisone spray for 2 months and if no improvement then referral and probable removal.( I was advised that the polyps may well return). So, I will continue as advised and use the Sinex, albeit sparingly. Thanks again.

As a boy, I used to suffer from chronic catarrh problems, and Vicks Sinex wasn't around in the form it is today....ie, those spray bottles, but it was available as a nasal stick. I still keep one handy, as I still suffer a bit after having had a cold.

They are a god-save IMHO !

The reason they say you shouldn't use it if you have high blood pressure is because it constricts the blood vessels which could cause the blood pressure to rise.

237......yes we know that, but it acts on the blood vessels in the nose, not elsewhere and hence would have minimal if ANY effect on the main body BP.
