I was relatively late and it has been uncomfortable rather than hellish. Sadly I have heard of some women for whom the flushes never go away. Avoiding alcohol, chocolate and spicy food helps some - I can't say I've tried as that would just be miserable! There's plenty of info online, I recommend A Vogel's website, they are very good and go above and beyond recommending their own products.
oh yes the joint aches.....and the dizziness....and the brain fog.....
I did try going almost completely sugar free and completely alcohol free for about a month. During that time, the sweetest thing I ate was raw carrot. I was delighted to find that it made no difference whatsoever. Neither did any of the herbal or complementary remedies. I was worse on HRT but that was the only option when I was going through it, and not to many varieties of that. What worked was wearing layers of clothing in natural fibres, keeping as cool as possible, drinking more water and having the occasional good swear.
