Dental Pain

I have a cavity in one of my upper teeth towards the back and an infection, I finished some antibiotics the emergency dentist gave me, 5 days of Amoxicillin, earlier in the week. I saw the dentist on Monday and am due back for him to clean it out and have a good look and give the verdict on what can be done, sounds like it's a complex one and might be a hospital job. Having Sjogrens has apparently contributed.
I've had a lot of pain and discomfort down the side of my face and a horrible nagging headache with it, on the same side as the affected tooth. I'm on regular pain relief for other conditions, Paracetamol and Dihydrocodeine, which dulls it a bit but doesn't get rid of it. I've had the odd ibuprofen, which helps a bit more but I can't take more than the odd one as it affects my kidneys.
Can anyone suggest anything else which might help in the meantime, especially at work as it makes it harder to concentrate? I'm not back to the dentist until a week tomorrow. Apart from having my wisdom teeth out many years ago it's the only other issue I've ever had with my teeth, never even had a filling so a bit lost when it comes to what else might help.

I'm plenty used to being poked and prodded :) I've managed four grommets being put in my ear under a local anaesthetic so am ok with invasive haha! As long as I'm properly anaesthetised I'm fine. Roughly how long do they take?
I am wondering about the possible cost. Can't really decide anything until I get the verdict from the dentist.

Good to know these things in advance too, like should I try and get anything like that done before a day I don't work. If it's well controlled by painkillers then sounds like it would be ok?
I do wonder about the possible healing issues as I'm daftly prone to a infections. When I had my first wisdom tooth out I was on (I think) metronidazole after, couldn't keep anything down on it, was all in my final law degree exams as well, of all the times.

Rocky,I had apisectomy after dentist snapped one of poking things and left it in root. When had emergency appt one time and saw owner of practice she went bananas and referred me to hosp asap.
Wish I'd sued them now, but just got 2 free crowns.
Hiya Eve, long time no speak:) Clove oil is good on a cotton bud, just hold it on tooth. Here is where I get most of my vits etc. They really good value.

Hi Baths, and thanks.
Aww Rocky, hope it goes well, just had to Google it. I hope it isn't too painful and heals up quick and solves the problem for you. Let me know how you get on.
I'm just hoping there is a straightforward and non expensive solution. The root is exposed in the cavity so I think that is where a lot of the pain is coming from. Being a back tooth makes it more complicated according to the dentist. I have so much going on at the moment I could really do without something complex.
Sqad, if you are still looking in, so far so good with the T Tube grommet. My initial issues resolved and it's staying put, unlike the ones before so really pleased about that.
Could this dental issue affect Menieres things? Had a lot of really uncomfortable pressure in my ears and a lot more clicking than usual. Thought it was a cold coming on, especially when the face pain started, but, touch wood, no sign yet. May just be coincidental.

Thank you so much, that is really helpful. It looks like the tooth needs to come out now but I've been referred to the hospital for it so might be a wait. A second lot of antibiotics and some medicine the dentist put in the tooth have helped in the meantime and I've got some clove oil and gel pain relief too for the interim.
It was so painful after the second appointment I'm actually glad in a way that I don't have to deal with the healing of the extraction over Christmas and the tooth is less painful at the moment. The dentist has killed the nerve so at least the awful sensitivity as gone.

Poor you, Eve. Toothache, there's nothing like it. One of my molars is niggling at the moment. I know it needs to be filled, but there's no way I'll be able to see a dentist anytime soon. I'll just be topping up with painkillers and Jack Daniels if it gets too bad.
Fingers crossed that you stay relatively pain free over the holiday.
