I've got the symptoms of thrush but I've never had it before and although many website list 'soreness' as a symptom, I'm in absolute agony! Is this normal? I did leave it untreated for a few days as I didn't realise what was it was at first, is this why I'm in so much pain? I took a canesten capsule this morning, how soon are the symptoms likely to subside?

Try applying natural live yoghurt.

You have to give it 24 hours I think. It does get more painful if you don't treat it, but now you have had it, you will know what to look out for next time. You can also get caesten cream which might make it hurt slightly less...
I've had it about 4 times in the past 6 months it's the worst!
If it is that bad I think you should visit the doctor as my friend at work had it really badly and it turned out to be herpes (sorry) but its best to be sure.

no i dasagree, the worst is when you scratch it soooo much it bleeds!

canneston every time x

I empathise with you sooo much!! I get thrush nearly every month and it really is the pits!! Canesten cream works well for me, it take away the stinging and burning. Try cutting out mushrooms from your diet, i know it sounds weird but it helps me! Mushrooms encourage yeast in your body which can also bring on thrush-im not promising miracles but its worth a go.

I've had those symptoms presently. I went to the doctor and he advised me to do a swab on myself so that the hospital could test whether I had a bacterial infection (sore/painful inside as well) or thrush. Apparently if you can get a mixed infection called vaginosis and you treat the thrush with cream, it will aggravate the bacterial infection, and if you use antibiotics it will aggravate the thrush. I recommend you go to your doctor and get it diagnosed properly. You can do the swab yourself if you feel more comfortable. Womenly problems are really annoying, but I think that you should be advised by your doctor in the first place, you will know the recommended treatment for your problem at the moment and for next time. Also think about any changes you have made, e.g. laundry detergent, soap, even shampoo/conditioner. I hope you feel better soon!

The capsules are brilliant, but take up to 3 days to work in my experience. You should see a doctor if it doesn't work as you've never had thrush before. It IS really painful BTW, you're not abnormal! Use cream as well to soothe it.

BTW, don't spend a fortune on Canesten capsules. Chemists sell generic/own-brand ones which are exactly the same. Tesco does an own-brand one which is much cheaper.
