My flatmate has been I'll since before Christmas. He got a bit better buy has been coughing constantly for weeks. He says the temperate and tiredness has gone but he's been left coughing constantly. Should he be worried? How long should a cough last for?

These post viral coughs often last for up to 8 weeks.
If he feels well in himself, eating well, then leave it for another 2 weeks.
The official NHS advice, both on those countless ads on the telly and on their website is "See a GP if you've had a cough for more than 3 weeks":
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/cough/
Buenchico.......if all sufferers followed the advice of the NHS, the GP's and X-Ray departments would be swamped and eventually collapse.
One needs a little common sense here and not dogma.

These are the salient point s in this case:

"He says the temperate and tiredness has gone"
This would suggest in this case we are not dealing with serious or life threatening underlying disease.

Thanks all!
It's not the cough that'll carry you off, it's the coffin they carry you off in.
Consider that it might be asthma - my son has had the same problem in the past. However, there are some really nasty bugs around and it may just be that.
