I normally have a decaf green tea, and settle down - not doing any jobs for the last hour before bed.

But sometimes I still lie there awake, listening out for the dogs. What do other people do to ensure a good night's sleep?

fairly dark room, no phone, no pc or tablet. lie quietly no distractions works a treat.

emmie, my brain is a distraction though. And I wish I could turn off my ears as I lie there straining to listen for the smaller noise. And before anyone says ear plugs, that makes me anxious that I won't be able to hear an intruder, so keeps me awake worrying! Ha!

Spath, like the whale tunes?!
the advice was given to me by a doctor, and by and large works well, try not to have tea or any substance before bedtime. As to music that's a no no.

I have to have a completely dark room.....not the tiniest glow of light and I have a book on audible.....not too exciting and a reader with a good story telling voice.....set the timer for about thirty minutes but I never make the end.....just drift off with a story....

I think I have to do this otherwise my mind starts working on things to do and make.....new fabrics, patterns and wool....and I'm wide awake....x

Ever come across the Sanquhar pattern in your knitting, gness? My Mum learnt it in the war, and I found some gloves she made the other day - seriously impressive, and rather beautiful
Try boring yourself to sleep. E. Gibbon's "History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" does it for me any time.
Otherwise, put some dried hops under your pillow. Very soporific.
Many years ago somebody told me to try Lavender on my pillow. Well I was up the whole night with that smell.

Some times works for me - hot milk.
Can sympathise with someone who struggles to get to sleep - had this problem years ago when I was diagnosed with clinical depression. Fortunately these days I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Hope you can find a solution AN.
Wow...those are fantastic, GG....haven't come across this and looked at some of the images after your first post....could hardly tear myself away....
The gloves are beautiful......I may just try a pattern......but a shawl or scarf first I think!
Thank you, GG......beautiful....x.
Just had a look at your link GG - wonderful patterns which I'd never heard of before. Think there's a site where you can actually download the patterns for gloves and scarves. Must have a look although my skills might not be up to it.
Glad you like it, gness. The gloves are lovely, and the tradition is that your initials are included in the cuff - very poignant to see my Mum's and think about her knitting them near Sanquhar during the war.
I can;t sleep if everything is quiet I try to find something inane on TV and find that sends me to sleep quicker than anything.
Some people use Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. Type 'ASMR' into YouTube and there are hundreds of videos.
