I’ve been drinking a lot of water and can feel heartburn.

Shouldn’t water dilute acid?

Milk would be more effective than water but if it's a persistent problem you need to see your GP.

No anti acids here unfortunately but in fairness it isn’t full on heartburn but a minor one.

Usually I take a spoonful of cider vinegar or biocarbonate of soda but am fresh out.
I find if I am having an indigestion or heartburn problem then drinking water makes it much worse....I kind of remember that the reasoning is that the body monitors the acid content of the stomach. If the acid concentration or ph drops then the body releases more acid to compensate.
If is happening regular do go and see the GP. They can prescribe something stronger than over the counter meds.
Vinegar is acidic

I find it interesting that you take cider vinegar, which contains acetic acid, if your stomach acid is too high. Bicarbonate of soda I can cope with, as that neutralises acid.

Acv actually works well for me, here’s a little read here

" If the acid concentration or ph drops then the body releases more acid to compensate."

You don't mean that. A low PH IS acidic.

Water and milk have little or no influence on acidity in the stomach and milk can make it worse.

You don't say how long you have been suffering, but if it is only recently. then Gaviscon or Rennie as anthro-nerd has suggested.

Well it’s passed now, thanks all :)
i know sqad....but I hit post and there was my silliness for all to see
LOL...I do it many times (most times in fact)....;-)
I did identify the difference between concentration and ph though :)
you can buy ranitidine over the counter.

come on sqad think back to matric
pH 2 is 1/100 mol /li
say you dilute by a half so the conc of acid is 1/200 mol/li
relog to get pH again - 2 - 0.3 I make it -2.3
and so the change is 0.3
( the log 10 of the factor of dilution, log 10 of 2 is 0.3 I am sure you remember from O level maff)

assumes no buffering capacity.....

ranitidine - no acid no heart burn
Ever heard of silent reflux, Peter?
Get that on a regular basis for periods. Can hurt to swallow sometimes. Gavaston tablets help at bedtime.
"I hit post and there was my silliness for all to see"
Precisely why an editing facility is a necessity.
// Ever heard of silent reflux, Peter?//

no - - because it was silent.

no - do tell ! - you do get reflux in children aged under one year but somehow I think you are not referring to that
