Life After Death/out Of Body Experience

I know this is an age old poser and boring to many, but I am interested to know if any reader has experienced this strange phenomena and what their feelings are about the subject (not necessarily religious). I have a very credible friend who is convinced this happened to him and now has no fear of death and an unshakable belief in an afterlife. What's your take on this?

I read a good book a few years ago by Dr. Penny Sartori and her account of near death experiences with her patients. Most interesting. You can buy it on Amazon.

If all NDE's are similar...because dying brains are similar...then how come some people have horrific, hellish experiences, far removed from the peaceful, tranquil ones?

Ive got that book Gill, very good. I seem to remember that she too talks about negative NDE'S. (been a while since I read it)

SusAn Blackmore is a total disbeliever. Ther is no room with her for being objective. One needs to research both sides of the story imo..... open mind on everything then maybe you will discover the truth.,

I find her very credible. I guess we have to make up our own minds but when you see the peace on the face of someone who has just passed I wonder if it is because the have the peace of knowing they will be safe. The same as what is life everybody will have their own theories.

BUT, as per the link above (6:38 mark) not everyone has such a peaceful passing. In the NDE literature there are some very disturbing accounts that tend to be ignored by most researchers.

I guess we can only go on our own experiences. I just feel fortunate mine was of a sense of peace when I found my father but, can only speak for myself.

Well when my mother died in my arms and in hospital - she was wired to all the tubes of the day. She was unconscious and I was crying and holding onto her begging her not to go and I know to this day that with every bit of strength she had in body she was pulling away from me - I knew she definitely wanted to die and when she did she was at peace.

Never easy for those left behind but sorry your mother was linked up to all the wires. I just went round to check on my father as I did every morning and he was just lying on the floor, as if he had just laid himself there. He will always be with me and was fortunate that both my parents went in their sleep and neither had to have post mortem. I realise not everyone is so fortunate though.

I dont expect anyone to believe what they havent experienced. Ive had NDE & heard my OH talking before he died, to his deceased father.

Tambo, so many people see lost loved ones when death is imminent. My husband's granddad died just before I met him. His nan instantly wanted to go, for she couldn't go on without him. She ailed for some 10 months, the final 6 weeks of which she was in hospital. Shortly before her death she was seen focusing on an area just at the foot of her bed, smiling and chatting in whispered tones. She wasn't on any heavy duty medication or end of life syringe drivers.

She was a typical black country, no nonsense lady not given to flights of fancy.

I had a family relative who died (relatively young) of a heart attack bought on by alcoholism. Those that found him say that his face was contorted in horror (perhaps not surprising) While my dad died of heart failure but was quiet peaceful when he passed.
Who knows??

Ive heard it said that NDE's don't teach us anything about the afterlife but more about our mental states while here.
As stated previously I don't have a clue what they are about, and I'm dubious about any kind of afterlife, but I think theres something to be said about our (sub)conscious telling us about ourselves.
