Last year I developed this niggling pain in my right hip. There is nothing to see, and skin is fine to touch, bitbit felt like when your a kid and get growing pains. Wouldn’t go away and really hurt. So doc sent me for x Ray, and bloods for arthritis etc. All clear. It then went for a while, but came back with a vengeance last week so bad that I was crying in pain. Doc sent me for another X Ray yesterday, but no results for two weeks. I’m in so much pain I can’t even lie down, and I’ve got a huge pain threshold. I’m absolutely terrified there is something seriously wrong with me.

Try not to worry. It's usually something treatable.

Why so long for the results though?
"I’m absolutely terrified there is something seriously wrong with me."

That is extremely unlikely based on your symptoms.
Is the pain worse on movement , activity and when you lie on it?
Question Author
They just said x day results take that long. And no cannot lie on it. Pain feels really deep inside and it’s getting worse.
"is the pain worse on movement , activity"
Could you answer the whole question?

The pain is constant. So walking it’s constantly throbbing - well I’m not walking properly today as it hurts too much. Doesn’t seem to make it worse - the pain is just constant.
OK...it could well be Trochanteric Bursitis.......housemaids knee of the hip....a bag of fluid inflamed and this would not show up on X-Rays od blood tests.
put an ice pack around your hip and take ibuprofen 400mgms three times a day if necessary and rest it.
Monitor the situation.
I have had bursitis - in the groin and in the shoulder and the pain is horrendous it would frighten you but it will take some time for the bursitis to heal.

I know how I wrecked in the groin. Was exercising and threw my leg too far up. Hope you feel better soon.
Without wishing to be picky, sorry, 'hip' is a bit of a vague description.
Is it your hip-joint? Side, back or front? Is it the pelvic girdle bone?

I'm afraid I can't offer any help but additional information may help those who can.

Hope it goes away very soon. :o)

Bursitis - so how would a doctor be able to diagnose that?
I was going to suggest bursitis too. Can be very painful, even lying down. I get it from time to time but is not constant like yours. Try resting a bit more and what sqad said. Hope you can get some relief soon.
Just on physical examination of the area......painful, swelling, may be hot, limited and painful hip movements......good old history taking and physical examination.

It’s the hip joint but the pains is now throbbing down from that down the thigh. Kids really bad growing pains is the closest I can describe to how vague it is . But I cannot lie on that side at all.
As sqad said it is a little sac of fluid and just bursts.

I remember the groin pain and drove my car round to the shops and it took me literally like 15 minutes to get out of the car - will never forget the pain - I am not a medic but don't think you can see bursitis. This time will be a healer. It is a frightening pain.
well throbbing down the thigh is again sciatica - awful - now Smow that you have a couple of names to your pain - you may relax. Good luck
It does sound like inflamation of the trochanteric bursa. Very painful. If you cannot manage conservatively (painkillers and icepack), there might be an emergency Orthopaedic drop-in Clinic where you could get a CT-guided intra-articular steroid injection.
was going to suggest the injection but my surgery just lets you suffer
Have you taken analgesias, do they help ?
Question Author
It’s definitely not sciatica - I had that years ago. Just cannot believe x Ray results will take two weeks. And analgesias as in pain killers?
Yes smo. Pain killers .
