Why do some people wake up with sleep in their eyes. Is this anything to do with the amount of sleep you are getting eg. if you have a good sleep you wont have any in your eyes when you wake up, whereas if you have a bad nights sleep you wake up with sleep in your eye?

This inflammation, caused by virus, an allergy or bacteria, produces a sticky discharge that dries overnight. If severe enough, the dried discharge can, as JackDanielsU experienced, glue the top and bottom lids together. This inflammation, by the way, is sometimes known as pinkeye and can be contagious.
