Unhappy Feeling

I'm not a big one for introspection - but today I'm feeling decidedly maudlin.
Not for myself, but because I'm now exactly the same age that my Dad was when he died.
Comparing my happiness (and the future I hope to have in front of me) with his struggle with continual ill-health and then an early death has made me sad - he (and my Mum) must have felt cheated of the retirement they'd worked for.
I'll be fine tomorrow - but right now I'm stuck in a brown study ...

I'll add my 'alfpenny's worth..... Sqad, naomi, why does it matter and what's this really got to do with 'overall doom and gloom in AB'? In short, it doesn't. From Dave's perspective, he felt a little down, (not depressed), about a significant day in his life, a day that many here have gone through and felt the same way as Dave does/did - so in that alone, there's...

gness.....you are correct, dave isn't a whinger and in many ways it is unfortunate that he was the author.....but, read his OP again, nowhere did he ask for other peoples opinion as it was a statement of fact as felt bny dave.
You have been on AB long enough to know that a post like that will be open to differing opinions and interpretations. I have been wanting to comment about AB and my perception of doom and gloom and I suppose naomi felt the same.....as do other Abers ...I assume.
What more appropriate way to voice our opinions when the window of opportunity presents for our opinions to be voiced?
Nothing against yopu, nothing against dave......but an opinion about AB.
I will be off Ab as i intend to watch ManUtd v PSG

From Dave's perspective, he felt a little down, (not depressed), about a significant day in his life, a day that many here have gone through and felt the same way as Dave does/did - so in that alone, there's nothing wrong in 'vocalising' it and, indeed, the very expression of the emotions involved in this may help others approaching a day that can feel gloomy for some of them in that this is a more general 'experience' than may first be thought.

I don’t care about my own death, but I’m a bit worried about my dad. Quite a few members of our family died at 79, most of them younger though. My dad will be 80 in a few weeks. He’s relatively healthy so hopefully he’ll make it :/
I try not to worry about death. But it’s understandable to feel a bit melancholy sometimes. My cousin died in her 40s in a car crash a couple of months ago. So you never know what’s going to happen.

It's normal to ruminate about the death of loved ones sometimes. I get days at this time of the year when I get sad about my parents as they both died at the end of March/beginning of April. There is a bird that sings at this time of the year and whenever I hear it I always feel a bit sad as it was singing when my Dad died. It would be a bit strange to never feel sad - at least if you had a good relationship with them (which quite a lot of people on here don't seem to have had which might be why they can't understand)
