Following a blood/urine test I got a call from the surgery telling me that they would like me to repeat the test in a month because my protein is'border line'. Can anyone explain what this means and what,if anything, I can do about it?

Too much protein in urine could be a sign of kidney disease
Mexican, before a meaningful answer, one would need to know your present medical history and laso what drugs that you have taken and why it was deemed necessary that you had a urine test.
Also.....how old are you ?
I presume you mean ...blood in your urine or do you mean in the blood?
Sorry Mexican I should have said protein in your urine or increased protein in your blood.

I am 70yrs old. 7yrs ago I caught pneumonia and it was discovered that my heart was not functioning properly. Now, because of the drugs, it's only slightly impaired. I suffer from high blood pressure.
Incidentally, they have only asked me to repeat the blood test.
I take aspirin,carvedilol
Losartan,amlidopine and a statin
Proteinuria can be a sign of diabetes. I wouldn't worry unduly yet. They will characterise it with further investigations.
You still didn't say whether your protein presence was in the urine or your blood, although you say that they want to repeat your BLOOD test which seems to indicate that the rise in protein is in your blodd and not your urine.
That has confused me.
I am going to assume that the protein was found in your urine, in which case it is not uncommon to find protein in normal subjects, but may also be found in patients who have had a recent febrile illness or dehydrated.
Clearly, from your medication, you have hypertensive heart disease which could put a strain on your kidneys explaining the presence of protein in your urine.
don't worry........wait and see what the check tests show and keep us informed. Even if you have kidney problems due to your high blood pressure, at this stage it is no big deal.

Thanks everyone, especially Squad. I don't know where the protein was. The receptionist didn't know and it will take 5 weeks to get an appointment with my doctor.(4 weeks for a phone appointment).
Thanks Mexican...it is almost certainly in the urine and it can't be that big a deal.
Don't worry.
