In England the law has changed. The victim no longer has to report the abuse. ANYONE ie. a friend, neighbour or family member can make the complaint to the police and press charges. A very recent change in the law. If you know someone this might benefit please pass this information on

Thank you for your judgement that I am ignorant, Dove and your patronising explanation of what domestic violence is.

I would have thought my careful phrasing of my point made it entirely clear that I wasn't disputing the quality of the advice, and neither do I lack any awareness of the subject. If I am ignorant, however, my ignorance also extends to believing this is a site where one asks questions and receives answers. I believe this is quite explicitly explained on the front page, if you'd care to look.

Just wanted to say good luck to you and your friend nfn and dove good for you that you came out of that relationship! Big hugs!!!!

In Denmark the law changed some years back so it wouldn't have to be the abused person who had to press charges, last year (i think) it was further implemented that it has to be the abuser that moves away from the home and not the abused who has to seek refuge.
