Why does there seem to be so much depression and anxiety these days, is it because we hear more about it, especially, it seems in young people, was it not heard of years ago or, especially, when war was on and could understand the reasons for it.

Sooner or later it stretches to every morning, they are then hooked on both, every night of the week.
I went to the drs a few years ago as I wasn’t feeling well, my dr has known me many years asked me to complete a questionnaire and finally ask me if I had thought about suicide I said no but I think people would be better off without me.
I was given medication and counselling.
This has come back over the last year due to a few factors including bullying.
Currently not on medication but contemplating it
Teacake - you're talking about addiction, not a weekend bender.
Martin - if you need medication, take it. No point putting it off.
The dr has sorted out some other help first to see if it improves
That's good. Have you got support from family and friends?
That's just the point addiction to drink and drugs is being seen as depression, its not depression. The idiots who take drink to excess, and take drugs fill the A&E every night of the week, dragging the NHS to its knees. The ambulance teams are stretched to the limits, leaving them no time to treat real depression. As for pixie referring to AB police that's just being silly.
Best wishes Martin, glad your Doctor has set something in place - take all the help offered.x
teacake - often it is. People trying to numb how they feel.

Don't judge, you don't know their stories.
12.40 and more often its not, in my view the more excuses you make for such like the worse it will get.
Tiggerblue. I wonder if you may require to take better care of your mental health. Have you sought professional help, family support ? Please don’t brush off what you may be experiencing. Concentrate on what YOU feel atm. Steer clear of the many negative responses you will encounter. Whatever you do......... do something. Take care Anne. You need not reply to my post if you don’t wish to .
teacake - I worked in a psychiatric hospital for years. Most people have a story to tell. You're not talking about people who go out at the weekend and get steaming.
Those are the people I am talking about, clogging up the NHS, pretending to have depression, their excuse for their habit. I'm not talking about people who have real medical depression. A druggie/ alcoholic will give all kinds of excuses.
Is it silly, teacake? You seem to believe police officers are best placed to diagnose mental health problems... I just don't see how.
You have clearly had some quite strange experiences with this... if you are willing to say what, please do.
Anne, I don't want to burden my family with how I feel. I've told my mum in the past and she just thinks I'm being rediculous so no point in going there.

At first it was to do with my ex and his cheating over the last year. Made me feel unloved and I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror. A few weeks ago I started seeing someone who I realised was quite abusive and aggressive and called me quite a lot of names under the sun! And the last straw being, that I was in a meeting at work the week before last and my manager undermined me and made me feel incompetant in front of colleagues and others.

Writing this all down, I know this seems like nothing in the grand scheme of things and I haven't suffered any losses or experienced any illnesses etc., but I feel very low at the moment and I have gone through depression and anxiety for a number of years now.
There are no rules, tigger. And there doesn't have to be an "acceptable" cause. You feel how you feel. Anybody with a mind can have a problem with it sometimes. Don't dismiss it, because you think others have it worse. You may just be naturally more prone to it anyway, and you generally are, if you have had it before xx
My guess is that any decent GP wouldn't take long to see through any pretence. "Druggies and alcoholics" are people with addictive personalities. Some may well suffer from depression - not just a hangover, or an empty bank account - as a result of their addiction.
"Self-medicating" isn't uncommon either. Alcohol is not unusual in people with anxiety, lsd for people with adhd, etc. It can be a symptom rather than the cause.
First of all you referred to AB police ( that was silly ) you really need to read my posts more carefully, I referred to the police having to confront druggies and drunks on a nightly basis, who then claim to be suffering from depression for their behaviour. I will agree to disagree with you, to end my input, as I think I have now given my view.
Tiggs, being surrounded by negativity and constantly being put down is very debilitating - you really need someone to talk to and bounce off and get your self worth back at the top of the agenda.

Easy to say and harder to do but you will.
