Whenever someone posts about the present virus on here there's a percentage that seem to want to label them as being either hysterical or going into panic mode for no reason. Some people do worry a lot more than others. With this particular virus I for one can understand their worry. I cannot ever remember in my 69 years of ever seeing such a virus spread around the world at such a pace.
In my view the posters that like to come across as not being bothered, or the virus is being blown all out of proportion are more than likely more concerned than the ones that openly admit to being worried.
If its correct that government have decided to withhold where there's new outbreaks, or bigger clusters, this maybe to combat any area panic, this I would think would be a very bad Idea and would contribute to even more going down with the virus, if you know there's a bigger out break in your area you can then take even more caution of what you do, and were you decide to go, and even increase more washing of hands.
A good example of the need to know is, My mom is 99 years old, she's not been out her home for the last 4 years, she as no wish to do so as she's happy indoors,. Her health is good (for her age) her chances of catching the virus therefore is very reduced as she don't go out.
If I don't know that my area is rampant with the virus/ or more so in my area I can't make a risk assessment of weather I should go to see her, she is still self caring and does very well on her own, I don't want to be the one to kill her off after all these years, at the moment I see her once every two weeks, in between by phone, and there must be many situations like mine, she lives 25 mile from me.
Conclude don't be so hard on people who post about this virus, they may live on their own and be very worried, they may only have this site to talk too with no family.

Complaceny leads to "too little too late" precautions. The virus has been around for months but only last Monday did our lazy smug Government start to address it. And with what - minor remedies like washing your hands more often, stay away from crowds (and the latest this evening, the two teams playing in the F A Cup will not shake hands before the match -...

I don’t think it is greed.
Apparently it’s something to do with herd mentality..my neighbour does it, the shelves are getting empty, I’d better stock up.
Also, people really don’t know how bad all this is going to get and they may not want to go to the shops if it gets really bad so are stocking up on some items. Imagine if you did run out of loo roll?? Disaster :)

If you follow the advice there's no need to note specific examples and act differently. If in the vulnerable category try to stay home, if not carry on with your normal hygiene arrangements. Some unlucky ones will fall ill, but like most epidemics, most won't, and the vast majority will recover. I think convincing folk they are worrying unnecessarily is a good thing. Encouraging their concern, not so good.
There is a difference between not publishing and keeping a secret. The information is still available here's one source. https:/ /ncov20 19.live /data
I have noted that you are particularly concerned abut this virus and its spread. I am not complacent however I think the media have grabbed this by the horns and are frightening people unnecessarily. It doesn't make this one any better but 1000s of people die of some flu virus every year, including in the UK and it's not particularly reported on - this one is on everywhere at every second. It's on every forum, repeatedly. In perspective there are currently about 85 cases out of a population of near 68 million people in UK. The elderly and vulnerable obviously should be careful.
I'm vulnerable but not panicking, but I am avoiding going out if i dont have to. I'm not on my own thank goodness. OH is happy to shop, but we are not stockpiling. I admit if I was on my own I would be concerned. Apart from OH I haven't seen anybody else since last Friday. I do feel sorry for vulnerable people who are on their own and anxious.

How can you possibly know how concerned/not concerned anyone else is? You can't read their thoughts, or get into their minds, so it is just plain silly to pretend that you know how much (or how little) concern they are feeling.

The key to most difficult situations is try not to panic, and for a lot of folk is not an easy thing to control. But if you've been living on your own for already a long time and you don't see many people from day to day , or even weeks, and you only see TV that makes it even worse. All I'm saying is don't clobber anyone who comes on here for some more info, or make them feel stupid for asking.
