Is it possible to get a diagnosis for a suspected medical condition without getting referred by the GP?
I understand this could cost a lot of money but would prefer to take this route. Of course if the condition is confirmed I would expect the GP to be informed.
I can't find a way to do it.

Thanks Sqad. I’ll ring round tomorrow.
\\ Quite often, the receptionist answering your call, may suggest a doctor\\

try and see

and tell us what occurred - dont ask the doctor if he is good - ask his staff.

do doctors recommend other doctors ? well Dr X of alphaville ( he is still alive ) did not take private patients and refused to recommend ANY colleague who did !! ( eek!) presumably on the grounds that if they got it wrong the patient wd claim from Dr X ....

personal experience - I was stunned
// You posted dangerous advice on cancer diagnosis and treatment. That you dislike being told so is quite simply tough//

ed can you make her give chapter and verse ?

and dangerous cannot be "Naomi conceived it was dangerous on her own just that day" - let truth speak !

Sqad - I was commenting on your use of the term Medical Man. Specialist on the other hand is gender neutral.
Peter, maybe something similar to what you wrote here is the cause of the problem.

Apologise for more clutter on your thread Barry, I hope you get some answers when you phone round tomorrow.
barry1010, excuse me if I am teaching my grandparent, but you might want to start by looking for a consultant who deals with the area in which you think your diagnosis lies rather than zeroing in to the specific condition.....so maybe eg an endocrinologist, rheumatologist, orthopod and so on instead of looking for eg a spine man or a Sjorgrens syndrome man?
Maydup......I stand corrected... MEDICAL PERSON.
PP your Dr X of Alphaville might have been one of those doctors who think that all medical treatment should be delivered through the NHS and people who go private are traitors to the state
Honestly, Sqad, they'll be letting them vote next. :-)
no Medical Women in your street, sqad?
Gawd, they ain't letting them loose to practice medicine now are they. This is Woman's Lib gone mad.
This question may also be complicated, if the diagnosis you are thinking of does not have a particular test. Sometimes you cannot prove someone has a particular illness - you just make an educated guess (which may or may not be right) from the symptoms that the person is showing. This could be true for several mental health conditions, CFS/ME and so on.
In those situations, it might not be all that useful to have a diagnosis per se, rather just treat the symptoms as they occur

bednobs, I want the diagnose so that anything more sinister can be ruled out.
well you could have the diagnosis AND something more sinister!
(cheerful aren't I?) why don't you just get the more sinister thing ruled out?
