Today I had my roots touched up. While the dye was taking effect I was told to isolate in a little area surrounded by black screens. I was in there for an hour and starting to feel quite claustrophobic.

Has anyone else had to do this?

That sounds very daft. I can understand keeping customers 2 metres apart or even a perspex dividing screen each side, but being boxed in with black screens sounds very off putting!
black screens is probably what they had and moving you away from where you were sat probably allowed them to fit in another customer safely
I take it that black is part of their salon colour scheme! Fortunately i have a mobile hairdresser who is also a friend. She coloured my hair from behind me in the kitchen in full ppe and a visor and then we sat w metres apart in the conservatory for an hour and chatted. I appointed her as my bubble!
It takes an hour to dye your hair??? My friend who has her done in a posh salon had to pay for 2 appointments as they don't have anyone else in the salon while the dye is taking
I’m so glad I have a mobile hairdresser.
was it an altogether hair raising experience ?

That sounds like an unpleasant experience, Cloverjo.
I had a haircut on Wednesday.
My hairdresser used a disposable gown and disposable towels.
I didn’t know there was such a thing as disposable towels.
