I'm not convinced that "don't see this fuss for flu" is either entirely correct or indeed the right lesson to draw. When the flu gets bad (ie the 1918 flu), the world saw the same response (right down to the denial and conspiracy theories), tempered maybe a little by the end of the War and the fear that bad news was not what many countries wanted to hear. Moreover, isn't it worth while to take seriously threats to health that cause people to die in larger numbers than are strictly necessary? If, as here, it's causing (many) people to be more conscious about their hygiene, etc, I'd expect that to be a long-term positive.
